This paper compares and contrasts the features of two web-based document
publishing environments: Zope and Cocoon/Apache/Tomcat. The paper
explores the strengths and weaknesses of the two environments with
respect to the creation of intranet web portals and other solutions
related to the problem of document management. Ideally these
environments feature XML-based content and offer 100% web-based
maintenance and administration. The paper concludes that, despite a few
annoying limitations, Zope is a much more powerful, mature, and
well-documented environment and probably holds a one to two year lead
over Cocoon and other similar Java-based publishing environments.
