I tested a few combinations of jetspeed, tomcat, java. Here are my results

jetspeed 13a2/java 1.3, tomcat4.0.1 jetspeed works, customization works
jetspeed 13a2,java1.4,tomcat 4.0.1 500 server error
jetspeed 13a2,java1.4, tomcat4.0.3 jetspeed works, customization works

jetspeed March18,java1.3,tomcat 4.0.1 jetspeed works, customization does not
jetspeed March18/java 1.4, tomcat 4.0.1 500 server error
jetspeed March18/java 1.4, tomcat 4.0.3 jetspeed works, customization does not

The only problem I've seen with tomcat 4.0.3 is that I have to kill the java
process after running shutdown.sh. I suspect the server errors with tomcat 4.0.1
and java 1.4 have to do with the location of some jar files. I've seen traffic
about that in the past but don't recall the details. I have never tried tomcat
4.0.2.

It looks to me like this might be the PEID problem Glenn mentioned.
