I need to justify stability of the technology. Personally, I think Jetspeed provides the foundation to survive. It is the typical, I am suspicious, since the market share is less than 50%. This will be long term commitment.
Also, the client is evaluating other technologies like uPortal. What makes uPortal desirable outside the University environment? Why not just go with SUN ONE?
The desire is for Open Source, since significant customizations will be needed. We need a portal engine that will play well with other standard technologies. I have not been able to find anything better than Jetspeed to meet these goals. Please tell me if there is something better.
I have been surprised that this list has not had more discussion of competing portal engines. What is really surprising that a Jetspeed discussion has never really took hold on Slashdot.

My main question would be - what is there to justify about Jetspeed - it can't be cost?
