Eric,
Is Tomcat correctly installed? http://localhost:8080 should display the default home page, which includes the text "
If you're seeing this page via a web browser, it means you've setup Tomcat successfully. Congratulations!

"
If tomcat is NOT working, please see the refer to Tomcat's site for more information, http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat

If tomcat is healthy:
1) What is the OS? 2) What errors are you seeing in Tomcat log files?
3) Is jetspeed.war being expanded by Tomcat?
4) What error are you seeing in the Jetspeed log file?

By the way, I would suggest using Tomcat v4.1.12 instead or 4.0.1

Hi,

I have just installed Jetspeed, but starting it doesn't work as described in the INSTALL file!!
I have been looking around in the internet for similar problems, but I could not find anything helpful...
I read sth. like one has to copy the JDK's tools.jar into the CATALINA_HOME/common and set the JDK_HOME.
Didn't work for me. Now I don't know what to do and hope to find some help here..

Thanks for any contribution
PS:
java version "1.4.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode)
