It's a new feature of v1.4b2. You can now specify styles for your parameter input in the Customizer, without having to write your own customize velocity. eg. you can have checkboxes, textfield, and one of these is a nice popup calendar which you use to specify a date... see http://www.bluesunrise.com/jetspeed-docs/JetspeedTutorial.htm#_Toc26987054
