I really don't recommand storing psml in LDAP, as LDAP is fast for reading only, not 
reading/writing. If you look how many times your psml is updated (minimize a portlet, 
arrange it, ...) you'll understand :)

Use LDAP for authentification if you want, keep a database for the rest.
