Thanks for the tip, that works for me too.  Is there anything that
describes this?  Obiously it comes down to profiling, but the docs I've
read have only described the paths that are used to resolve a request
but haven't mentioned creating default files.

Have you tried using the profiling rule 'role-group' instead? That is
the one I have been using and when I login as different users I get the
appropriate default page based on their role.
