Thanks for the help, but I am still a little unclear.
I think it will take some time for all this new info to sink in.
One good thing is that I did get the portal to compile and
deploy :) thanks to all the help from this list.

Neil,
You can run Step 4 if you want to build a custom portal. However, step 5
is required if you are building from source no matter what.
If the basic default portal is all you want to see, you can skip step 4.
