Hello everybody, I had a special requirement to set the group automatically using the clients IP address. That is to say only certain networks could access and complete the registration form. So I hacked this into the User Registration Portlet between validation and the call to admin.registerUser.
I was happily using the variable this.groups to assign the proper group until I found out that this is maintained in memory between registrations. And subsequent users were being assigned to all precedent groups. I think that the registerUser method should return a User object so that updates could be made immediatly following registration. In addition I think that there are lots of use cases for user registration and there is a need for a external configuration. That is to say a chain of standard and custom actions invoked during registration. That's my idea.
