I wouldn't use 1.0b1. I would get the one right from CVS and run that.
There have been some major changes (especially in the Portlet API which
I think you will like (org.apache.jetspeed.portal.* )) and 1.0b1 doesn't
reflect the power of JetSpeed.
With Turbine finalizing up I will be trying to get 1.0b2 out sometime in
the next two weeks (hopefully).

It really needs work done here. BTW.... it is my fault for allowing the
code to be commited but JetSpeed currently doesn't (totally) work under
JDK 1.1.8. Some of the JavaMail stuff breaks as does the Calendar
portion.

Cool. Sounds like JetSpeed is what you were looking for! :)

Totally fine! We would be excited to have you aboard. I think you will
really like the org.apache.jetspeed.portal package. It will be the
major focus of JetSpeed 1.0b2 and used within my company extensively.
(check out relativity.yi.org. Right now this is static HTML but will be
JetSpeed driven soon)

Sorry I didn't get a chance to reply. This week has been very hectic :(
