So that is one of the goals.  Castor does a good job with this.  Right
now though it is just an API for accessing XML.  I just have to write an
XML schema and it generates a ton of code for me.

It is important to store the Portlet Markup in another format besides
the filesystem. This way I can serve up Portlets based on users who were
authenticated by a database (read Turbine).
