Kevin,
I can make a header logo for you if you like with the URL at the bottom or
wherever it will look best. But for button icons that people can put on
their website, which would include a link to the Jetspeed site, there is
not enough room (IMO). Not to sound argumentative, but if the icon points
to the website, regardless of the URL, what is the point of having the URL
address in the logo? Once they are on the site, like what they see, they
can bookmark the page. A logo is for branding a product, service or
company. I could create a logo for co-branding, letting people know that
it is part of the Apache group if that is what you are trying to accomplish.
On a standards guideline, I think that they are important, so if people use
a logo on their own accord to get something made it is consistent
perspective and color wise. One advantage as well, if there is ever an
article printed by the press, which includes the logo, they will know the
exact cymk and dimensions values to use. By the way, shirts are pretty
inexpensive. I had some made for our company, and for a Hanes Long Sleeve
T-shirt, with 3 imprints it was around 10 dollars a shirt. There is a
one-time 60-dollar setup fee and the minimum order is 12.
On the primitives, can you work with EPS files and convert them to
GIF? Since GIF images are indexed, when you resize them, they get
distorted and pixilated. Or if you let me know ahead of time what the
height and width are in pixels I can create the gifs for you. I work in
PhotoShop and Illustrator.
Thanks for your help on the logo design, while I may not agree 100% with
you, I appreciate and encourage the feedback.
Best Regards,
Dave

UNIX is user friendly. It's just selective about who its friends are.
