I just want to point out that the jdk 1.2.2 for linux from Sun is not suited to run on multiprocessor (SMP) kernels. This information is taken from the readme, and has been verified by Sun. (See Notes for Linux users). I have realized _very_ weird behaviour and many crashes before I digged that information from the docs. It also doesnt include a JIT and only green threading. A JIT for Linux can be found at Inprise, Sun states it can be used alongside their release without troubles. Yet a possibly better solution is to take a look at http://www.blackdown.org and the RC4, although future versions (either sun or blackdown) are said to be based on the same common source. For Projects to be based on a stable platform, I would definately suggest to take a look at the IBMs jdk1.1.8 for Linux. Maybe this information helps a few people, its at least an issue for projects with high traffic expected.
