Just managed to get Jetspeed 1.1 installed on NT with Jserv and it looks
great! I used the FAQ on
http://locus.apache.org/jyve-faq/Turbine/screen/DisplayTopics/action/SetAll/
project_id/1/faq_id/13
to get me going with the basic installation and configuration of Jetspeed
with Jserv, however I ran into that CocoonPortlet bug that occurs on NT
with
the 1.1 code. I was however able to include the patch described in
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg01445.html
and rebuild the Jetspeed.jar to overcome this.
Rebuilding was a bit of a pain, since I didn't have the Servlet 2.2 jar
file - I thought I could get away with the Tomcat servlet.jar (aren't
they just different implmentations of the same thing?) - but ended up
needint
to get the Sun servlet.jar.
One thing I would like to make note of, I had my first experience of CVS
- I have worked with RCS and Clearcase in the past, and wasn't really that
phased by CVS - I just never needed to use it. Anyway, being behind a
firewall really didn't help the experience at all. I started to download
the newestt files individually via WinCVS, but soon got very bored with
that - so
started to hunt the maillists for how to fix the src that I had. Anyway,
all I
want to say about this is could someone write a script to build a nightly
tarball of the latest src - just for suckers like me who can't use CVS
through
their firewall (and no, my network admin won't open the port) - put a big
disclaimer on it ("this may not build" type thing) but at least people
wanting to be bleeding edge can bleed all they like...
So now I've got jetspeed working, I'm wondering what to do with it? The
project came to my attention via JavaCorporate (where they claim to be
bundling a version of Jetspeed with their ePortal project), and they seem
to have plenty of plans to incorporate eForum, ePortal and eContent with
Jetspeed - but what is the status on this?
Is there a "latest news and project status" page that I can keep track of
the project on? (asides from the rarely updated page on java.apache.org -
I'm talking weekly updates such as on mozilla.org...). I know the mail list
is
where to get the most up todate info - but it takes a while to scan all the
emails..
Also, documentation seems a bit scarce... I know it's a moving target at
the moment and I guess this will come in time...
