have you ever considered Orion as an alternative server for production
environments? It is not open source, but quite affordable, it supports
*full* J2EE, and loadbalancing and all (so they say)

Subject: Re: [JServ or Tomcat?]
Well our situation is we are using the load balancing features of JServ for
production. Last I heard this was not in Tomcat yet, so until we have this
(
and maybe better integration with Apache, last I tried was a while ago, so
this may be better ) for tomcat, we'd be staying with JServ.
Although I agree, tomcat is coming. We all use it for development on our
machines, but use JServ/Apache for the production boxen. We might get away
with Jetspeed switching to Tomcat only, since we haven't rolled out
production
portals yet, but are close.
I won't -1 it, until I've researched if load balancing is ( when it will
be )
ready for prime time in tomcat ( anyone know? ). Just wanted to respond
with
my 2.5 cents.
