I have the same experience, except that I have to change more files

I had deleted the /content in all the paths of the following files(maybe
more?)
defaultPortlets.xml
portletregistry.psml

For example, I changed the
/content/dynamic/index.xml
to
/dynamic/index.xml

to make the Apache Jetspeed and Slashdot portlet appear.

It seems like there is some inconsistency in the use of
content.root.url ? Any idea? Correct me if I am wrong.

The CVS seems to be updating now,
I still cannot get the updated copy of the source file.
:o)

Thanks

Ah... cool.

If you were running 1.2b1 you can upgrade to the version from CVS just
fine. I integrated the fix into CVS.
