Title: Jetspeed default layout

These are probably all newbie questions, but I could
really use some help on such basic areas as layout control.
I think it would be great to have a document or FAQ explaining
these things; if I get good answers to my questions, I promise
I will create one and contribute it back... 8-) So, feel
free to intersperse lots of comments and hints between
my not-so-clever questions...

How is the Jetspeed layout controlled? What I have
been able to dig out is:

* The left-hand area is a list of "static" news taken
from jetspeed-content.xml; I guess this would be the
file that the site's maintainers would update with
  "local news".

* The right-hand area, top portion, is also a list of
"static" news taken from jetspeed.rss; why a different
extension? Also, I have noticed that my jetspeed page
shows the <description/> part of jetspeed.rss ("An Open
Source Portal/Groupware web application."), but it does
NOT show any of the <item/> items. Could this be because,
due to my sitting behind a proxy server, there is some
kind of internet connection that cannot be made?

* The right-hand area, middle portion, is a list of
  applications taken from portletregistry.psml. However,
the file lists many more <entry/> items that are shown
on the page; even more, each item on the page only shows
a title and a short description; is this correct?
Finally, all of the four items shown ("Customize your
page layout", "Sample XSP application", "Channel Browser",
"Channel Search") will take me exactly to the same page:
the sample XSP page. This is not right, correct?

By the way, this seems to be the perfect place to point
  to other Cocoon-based apps, right?

* The right-hand area, lower portion, has the "Search"
application, which is clearly linked from on the same
portletregistry.psml file. How is this particular entry
  configured to appear here?

* All of these areas have a yellow bar on top, all with
a little square that makes that area to occupy the whole
screen when clicked. All except the Applications area
also have a small Edit button that shows information about
the portlets. How is this configured? Where does it say
which area shows the Edit button and which area doesn't?
Where does it say it is a yellow bar?

Layout question: where does it say the left-hand side
area is populated from the jetspeed-contents.xml file,
the right-hand area is populated from <whatever>, etc.?
Where do I change this layout? Where do I specify the icon
shown on the top-left corner of the page? etc. You get
my drift...

Is there a Jetspeed user's guide (beside the really short
document found on the web page)?

Thanks,
