Folks,

I would be more than happy to coordinate the development of a more
complete set of install documents for Jetspeed. I plan to start with the
tomcatsolaris.txt document and build from there.

When I have the document (plain ASCII text) done, I will submit a first
draft to the list here for corrections and additions. Hopefully, we can
get a list of all of the typical "gotchas" that I've seen spring up here
in the email time and time again (many of which got me as well). Perhaps
once all of this content is specified we can make this available online
as well.

I also plan to scavenge through the mailing list archives for
configuration info as well. However, if I have questions on a particular
issue, I may raise it here to get a better understanding of it in order
to document it fully.

One thing I would like to ask is that the core development team send me
the contents of their Tomcat classpath, if you have customized it at
all. In this regard I would also appreciate knowing if you have removed
any of the default jars that ship with Tomcat (i.e. jaxp.jar perhaps),
or other changes you have made there. Often the answer to a problem
seems related to the classpath and learning what you, the committers,
have in yours and documenting that could alleviate some grief for others
in the future.

Also, since the PSML and portlet registry seem to be in a high state of
flux, I also volunteer to coordinate changes related to these documents
that should be part of the installation and setup procedures.

Finally, if you are using a database other than MySQL and want to see it
included as an addendum to such an install document, please send me
details of your current configuration. I will include as many database
setup configurations as are submitted.

I have two code areas that are of particular interest to myself and my
employer. These are the admin screens and the customizer application. I
plan to begin familiarizing myself with those areas as well. Depending
on how much effort I initially end up putting into the installation
documents, I hope to be able to perhaps make contributions in those
areas as well.

For the last 2 months I have been largely a lurker here but now am ready
to try to begin contributing, at least in some small way, to the
project. If there is anything else I can do to assist, please let me
know.

Thanks, and I look forward to putting this together with all of you.
