For the umpteenth time, are you on a cvs branch? If you are,
even if you do a cvs update, it will NOT bring your files
up to date with the main trunk, because branches are sticky.
You would have to do an "update -A" in order to break the
stickiness. (BE CAREFUL!!! If you do that, and you have local
changes belonging to the branch, -A will overwrite them!).
That's why I asked you to verify my report by doing a
clean commit on a directory where no working copy of the
repository is at all... Another possibility is that you
have clock problems between your machine and the cvs server.
