There is a java version. I don't know if it can be downloaded separately, but
it comes bundled with Jigsaw.
I don't know the URI, but it appears under the HTTP initiative in w3c.org This
version has configurable parameters, and can be deployed by just putting it in
the classpath and saying -Dsomething.sun.handler=... instead of the default
protocol handler factory.
I think you can even browse the CVS code under jigsaw. look for
org.w3c.www.* and org.w3c.util.*,
especially org.w3c.www.protocol.http.HttpBasicServer.java
It could be very efficient, because it tries to use Keep-Alive to send
sequential request to a given server. This would alleviate the problem of DoS,
as Jetspeed would wait until a channel is here to ask for the next.
CAVEAT: I have never used it outside of Jigsaw. YMMV.
PLUS: Jigsaw is a very advanced, mature and efficient HTTP Proxy/Server.

I think the solution of having less threads (I don't think by now they are used
for anything else) is good for the next weeks. I don't mean putting it in CVS,
but rather recommend people to do it.
I also think a good solution this should be left for after ApacheCon.
See you there :-)
