Thomas Boehme and Stephan Hesmer has taken ownership of this activity. If you
want to contribute to this effort, you should coordinate with them.

If you want to distribute the code with Jetspeed, the code but have an Apache
compatible license (not necessarily ASF, BSD is nice, etc... ). If you really 
think using a LGPL code would be cool and its author doesn't want to also 
release it in a BSD style license, you can create a new API and code the Jetspeed
component against this API, then provide a component implementation of this API 
using the LGPL code which could be downloaded separately.

Since a few months ago, it's the PanedPortletControl which does the trick.
Look at /content/psml/turbine.psml to see how it's configured.
