Image loading problems

What makes jetspeed save pictures with all the .. .. ?
example:
http.images..slashdot..org.topics.topicslashdot..gif


IE 5.5 won't display the images unless I change the file to


http.images.slashdot.org.topics.topicslashdot.gif
