I propose that Steve B. sends his old code (I imagine is entered the
list unnoticed).
I that Ingo looks at it / merges it with his proposal, and that we
commit a preliminary version. The documentation will state limitations
and problems, but I don't think we should refrain from commiting just
because there are cases we cannot handle.
It is better to have this code under cvs than to have different versions
and patches going around the list.
