I had some buggy versions of openssl that had this bug, but once I upgraded to
1.0.1e it went away.
I had an SSL problem recently that turned out to be a JVM bug:

Don't know if your problem is related, but just in case you should try updating
the JVM to the latest version; I updated from 1.7.0-b147 to 1.7.0_11 and it
fixed the problem.
