We have reworked the JMX support in https://github.com/eclipse/jetty.project/issues/1517. It now supports also TLS out of the box. The documentation has been rewritten as well to include the setup required for TLS too. I recommend you to look also into connecting via SSH tunnel (also in the documentation).
