Ugh I just went through the furnace problem.  It would shut off frequently.  I have an oil burning furnace.  There is a "reset" button on the furnace, if you remove the front cover of it.  Ours is RED.  If we pushed that, the thing would fire back up again and run for a while...but then if it shut off again (when the temp in the house got the right temp) it would not start up again until we hit the reset switch again.  I had the repairman out here last winter at the end of the winter about 4 different times and he changed parts, messed with stuff, charged me an arm and a leg, and still didn't fix the damn thing.  So this year, we were having the same problem.  I finally called a new guy to come in and he found a loose screw.  A LOOSE SCREW on the sensor thing that senses the temperature...or somethng like that)  So all it was was a matter of tightening that darn screw.  He didn't want to charge me, but I gave him $20.00 ! anyway for his time.  That was a few weeks ago and my furnace has not shut off since then.  You might want to look for a reset button and try that for a temporary fix, just to get the house warmed back up.  Even if it doesn't fix the problem, you can at least have heat periodically.  It's worth a shot.  I hope you can get it figured out.  I know what it's like to be cold!  NO FUN!
