Well littermates,
I did the pantry today, or that was my goal. I
started where I left off yesterday which was the
tupperware cabinet (kind of like a portable pantry
cupboard). I cleaned the top of that off. :)
Then the dreaded pantry was begun. I moved the canned
goods into the tupperware cupboard, the tupperware
(actually a lot of Rubbermaid and Anchor Hocking) into
the pantry, organized, re-arranged and threw out
expired food from the pantry. I have a bag of
semi-expired food that dh and I are going to eat (dry
goods, nothing perishable).
Then I got crazy. I have a corner cupboard above the
counter and a lazy susan below it. I switched them
around. The corner cupboard had my pots and pans in
it and a lot of wasted space. The lazy susan had
baking supplies, spices, ect and it was VERY
disorganized. Then I noticed that dd's stuff was in
the 2 thin cabinets on either side of the stove that
would be perfect for all of the cool stuff out of the
lazy susan. Moved it all around. I also was able to
get the 3 frying pans that were living in my dish
drainer into the lazy susan. Yeah me!
Dh had a cabinet of just coffee mugs that are now
housed with the glasses, the 9 x 13 pan and the 9 x 9
pan that were with the glasses are now where the
coffee mugs were and MUCH more accessable. No more
stand back and pray that something doesn't come
crashing down on me! :)
I threw out any food that expired in the 1990's.
(Yes, I had some.) Some stuff that expired in 2000.
(Less of that.) Some expired food that I knew we
would never eat. A can of shortening that expired in
March of 2000. Yuck! And we still have enough food to
be snowed in for months! But the good news was that
the trash men were late and I got the bag to the curb
today and it is now gone. The rats at the dump are
eating well tonight! I felt so guilty for throwing
out food but I know that food banks and other
charities don't accept food that is old and expired.
So...I will just have to curb my shopping habits.
So, my new project is to see just how long I can live
out of my freezer and pantry, going to the store only
for milk and bread (and once we run out of ground beef
and chicken, that too). And dh agreed to do that (you
all know about the $50 rule at Walmart <g>) so we can
save extra money. Further example of how you learn
new habits while babystepping. :)
The dishes are done. And I am going to relax and
watch SVU tonight. CSI was good last night, I enjoyed
it. :) That is my dream job, forensic scientist. I
actually looked into going back to school for it but I
think it will stay a dream. (Physics, organic
chemistry and calculus in one semester? I think not!)
For now I will just enjoy my shows, and forensic
night on the discovery channel. I'll just call it a
hobby. Besides, being around crime scenes and dead
bodies all day would probably mess with my head.
Julie
