Hello all Having read the post about not having anything under the bed I got down on my hands and knees and took a look under our bed.
Well it was stuffed full of stuff, stuff we haven't seen in ages, stuff I am afraid to say that I have always ignored even when decluttering the room. It also struck me that there was one other area in the bedroom that I have also been ignoring.. on top of our wardrobe. Its a case of out of sight out of mind for the stuff under the bed, add to that the fact that the legs on our bed are not too clever and the probability that the only thing keeping the bed legs from finally giving way is the stuff under it. As for the top of the wardrobe, well the unit is so tall and its difficult to get to the stuff anyway and I am not very good on a ladder that has more than three steps LOL. Do these sound like excuses to you? I tackled the top of the wardrobe first, its three units and they're each eight feet tall. The first one is my wardrobe, in the bottom there is a three drawer chest it was wasted space because my long dresses are in the next wardrobe. Then there's the hanging rail above which is a shelf where I keep my folded clothes. The next unit we share, its been divided down the middle vertically one side being full hanging space the other shelves on which DH keeps his folded clothes. The next one is storage space in the daytime for our bedding (we strip the bed each morning and bundle it all in, long story) then there's DHs hanging rail above which is the same shelf where we keep motorbike helmets and such like. The top of the wardrobe is quite a large area although only about four feet high, here is a list of the things that I cleared off of it: 1 An eiderdown from my grandmother which we can't use because DH is allergic to the feathers 2 An old electric blanket which we used once then never used again 3 Six wool blankets in various colours all single bed size and too good for the dog 4 Three bags of DHs old clothes that I thought he had gotten rid of 5 Three boxes, empty, we where keeping them in case we needed to send the item back. Each of these items have long gone. 6 Five cuddly toys with no eyes that the dog chewed Items 1 to 4 are going to charity and 5 and 6 are in the bin. It took me 20 minutes to get the ladder out, 10 minutes to pull all the stuff down, 10 to sort it and 10 minutes to put the ladder away again. Took longer to get the ladder out because I couldn't find it LOL. After a cup of tea I went to tackle under the bed. I took 18 house bricks with me for this task, stacking them three high and putting them under the bed beside the legs. The idea being that they would support the bed and it wouldn't come down on me whilst I was under it. Here's a list of what I found 1 A lot of rubbish now in the bin 2 A small bookcase lying on its back filled with Nasa videos 3 A couple of pairs of old shoes, gone to the bin 4 Two candlewick bed spreads also from my grandmother 5 Various dog toys, I had obviously stumbled on Hobos' hiding place which is the reason the following where probably under the bed too LOL a The summer sandal I have been looking for, unchewed but very dusty b Most of the odd socks that match the ones in my laundry basket c A washing up bowl ... don't ask, I don't know LOL d A few sticks and a large log, now in the wood basket e A couple of balls of wool, very matted and a little shredded, in the bin f Shredded newspaper! I can understand this one, when Hobo was first here we would threaten him with a rolled up newspaper, I suppose this was his way of working out his frustrations LOL. g Many items of DHs clothes, the dog adores DH and can't bear to be parted from him That was about it, I must say it was interesting all the stuff the dog had hidden where in a pile at the farthest point under the bed. He's not impressed with me I can tell you. The bookcase and videos went back under the bed after a good clean. I know the idea was not to have anything under the bed but we need to make room for it in the living room and as DH said if its lived under there all this time a little longer won't do any harm. I have put notes all over the kitchen and living room saying ' Nasa needs a home in the living room'. I left the bricks under the bed, now we can see the legs properly it is obvious that they will not hold up for much longer. The base is very old and we should of replaced it years ago but the money when its available is always needed else where, isn't it always. So I am now back in the computer/office/craft room and I am going to tackle the wardrobe in here. Looking at it I can already see another feather eiderdown and a dog bed. Why is the dog bed on top of the wardrobe? well we haven't managed to convince the dog not to run round the house dragging it behind him, so its on top of the wardrobe, where all dogs sleep of course! Well better get started, talk to you later Louise PS DH left for work at 6 am this morning which is why I got such an early start. Its now nearly 9:30 am and I reckon its time for some elevenses !
