Leslie,
That was Rebecca who mentioned losing things in a flood and realizing she should have gotten rid of that stuff sooner. I have to agree with her. I have also been flooded - May 1995 we had a foot of water in the entire house. What a mess!
That flood changed my life and the way I look at my "stuff". I think it was the start of my "clear it out" mentality, although it took several years before I really got into it full speed.
Make sure you get rid of anything that can't be cleaned, and let them take the air samples. Mold & mildew can be hazardous to your health. After the flood we washed everything, including the insides of the walls, with chlorox & water. Be sure you have good ventilation for that! A few weeks after the flood, when we had finsihed cleaning everything, I started to notice a peculiar smell, which made me sneeze. I am allergic to mold/mildew & I discovered that I had missed spraying the wall behind the fridge and mold was growing there! YUCK!!
Maybe you could look at this as a "sign" that its time to clear out the things you no longer need... Believe me, you'll feel better for it.
