<< Debbie - how are YOU? >>

Thanks for asking for me. I feel intermittently better which I guess is
normal-when the mediations wears off my fever goes back up & the aching
starts again. I guess I have a combination flu/strep. Actually I won't ever
know if I really have strep since when I tried to get the culture on Saturday
I found out that the inadequate office at my doctors staff had never faxed
over the order as promised & when I called the answering service for Dr.
Szeto said that Dr. Fallorino was on call, so I called her office and was
told that Dr. MacReynolds was on call, so I called his office & was told that
he was only a pediatrician so he couldn't treat adults. Talk about
run-arounds so I went back to Fallorino's answering service & they said "duh"
they didn't know-maybe she was on call for herself when it was an adult
patient. This doctor has been on call for Dr. Szeto for the last 11 years
that we have been a patient & she has yet to see us. She just prescribes
medicines right & left over the phone without even hardly asking your
symptoms. Well, in this case she call me back seeming very annoyed that I
had bothered her & she said to just skip the strep test & she called in
Amoxicillin (or however you spell it) so I didn't have to wait at the lab
after all. I would have liked to know if I had it though. My throat is
worse than ever-swollen & sore. I fact it looks like I have tonsils when I
had them removed when I was little. My glands are swollen & sore I my head
keeps pounding. I have been taking my prescription Orudis (painkiller) and
X-tra strength Tylenol every few hours all day but the headache never
completely stops. Yesterday I went out to pick up the antibiotic & my boys
from the pinewood derby (younger DS's car one 2nd place for best
looking-looked like a skateboard) and while I was out I felt a lot better.
It was a nice day & the fresh air felt good. I got stuck taking my DS to the
birthday party myself since DH got stuck on a double-shift. He had 3 people
call in sick with the flu. He is so tired from all these hours-5:00 a.m. to
11:00 p.m. 3 days in a row is really taking his toll on him. I really hope
he doesn't get this but he did have a flu shot at work. Anyway the birthday
party was in the middle of the "Boonies" 1/2 hour away so the people insisted
that I just stay and wait for him rather than come back. I told them that I
may be contagious but that didn't seem to bother them & she is a nurse at a
Children's hospital. I tried to keep my distance & sat quietly in the corner
just observing everything all night. I ate a piece of pizza, and some cake &
ice-cream, which was the first thing I'd eaten except for a few crackers
since Thursday when I had just picked at the rice at the Chinese restaurant.
Anyway, they gave me a few Motrin when my headache started getting worse & I
was OK until I got home. Wow, I don't know if it is like when you don't
really have to go to the bathroom until the toilet is in sight or your a
little kid & you handle the pain until you see your mother's face, but the
second I walked in my house the whole nine yards of symptoms came flooding
back. I barely made it down the hall to tuck my kids in bed before I
practically crawled to the living room couch. I guess I just have to wait it
out & let this stupid flu run its course. There is no school tomorrow since
it is President's day & DH has off Tues. & Wed. so he can take the kids to
school so maybe sleeping in will help. Nights & mornings seem to be the
worse. Right now I am not too bad-if I don't swallow or turn my head. The
headache is always there. I am not nauseous anymore but my throat hurts too
much to eat so maybe at least I will take off a few more lbs. At least
something good will come out of this. I think I am down about 20 lbs since
Christmas - now only about 50 or 60 more to go!! LOL Unfortunately the
clutter seems to be multiplying as I lay on the couch & I can't do anything
about it. Hopefully the boys will take sympathy on my & do a few chores to
help me out. They aren't very good in the chore department. Older DS just
came downstairs & said that he felt nauseous & had a sore throat & was going
to lay down. That is just wonderful since he just got over missing 10 days
of school for bronchitis. At least he isn't in the middle of any major
projects right now & the marking period just started. Please keep us in your
prayers-he is not an easy patient-especially if I am not feeling well either.

I better go-my knuckles are starting to ache.
