Hi All -
It is a wet, chilly, dreary Friday afternoon in St. Rose, LA. But it is a WONDERFUL day, just the same.Today my new a/c - heating unit was delivered. It should be installed tomorrow. It is, literally, a gift from God!
Last week I mentioned to a neighbor, Debbie ( the mother of my ds's girlfriend) that I needed to have my a/c serviced before summer and I was hoping it would hold out through another summer. My unit is 18 years old and barely holding on. She said she had a friend who could check it out, someone she knew through work who had installed her new unit at cost.
Next thing I knew, I got a phone call from Debbie, asking if I could be home today to have a new a/c delivered. She somehow arranged through her church and her friend to get a new unit and have it installed for me at no charge! I was floored! She said that it was a gift from God and I should just thank him for it.
You cannot imagine what this means to us. As a single parent with one small income and an ex very delinquent on child support, I have struggled to keep this house going for years, repairing what I could and doing without the rest. We went 2 winters without a heater, because I couldn't afford to have it repaired (luckily it does not stay extremely cold here, although we did weather a few hard freezes).
So just when I'm wondering how we'll make it another summer with the repairs and outrageous electric bills to keep this old a/c running - along comes a new a/c.
It gives me renewed faith, not only in God, but in the goodness of people who will do so much to help someone they don't even know! I have to take this as a sign from God that we can make it if we just persevere. It has renewed my energy and enthusiasm to get this house in order and do the repairs that I am able to manage myself. It also frees up some money to work with, as my electric bill will certainly be more reasonable. Someday I WILL have this house in good working order!
I can't believe how fortunate I am to get this help. It reminds me that every time I've thought I couldn't take another step, somehow someone came through to help me. It has happened so many times...
Ironically, just a few days ago I was discussing with my ds (15) my belief that the good things that you do come back to you someday. He said, "Well Mom, then you shouldn't worry - you must have alot of good things to look forward to." Amazing...
So I'm home today, working with you all. So far I've unloaded stuff from the attic (where the a/c man needs to get in), straightened up, vacuumed the house, done 2 loads laundry, put away clothes from the pool table, unloaded & reloaded the diswasher and washed dishes, cleaned counters, gone to 2 banks (1 for work), stopped for gas, and made file folders for work I brought home with me.
After I finish making folder labels I'm going to sort through some boxes of stuff I took out of the attic and hopefully clear out some things rather than move it back up there. After all, if I have to take them down I might as well accomplish something. I'll let you know how it goes.
Diane
~thanking God for all my blessings~
