When I read that you would be in Birmingham, AL, I could not resist writing to you! I live about 60 miles from Birmingham. How long will you be there?
If you are near AL Hwy. 280 check out The Summit: a large, beautiful mall that looks like a huge courtyard with parkbenches and wonderful landscaping. The stores range from Abercrombie & Fitch, Saks 5th Ave., Old Navy, to Barnes & Noble, and an organizing store.
If you are heading east on I-20, check out the Talladega MotorSports Hall of Fame. It is a museum that houses lots of NASCAR memorabilia, including several wrecked race cars. The Talladega 500 NASCAR race (recently renamed, of course I only remember the old name) will be held this weekend, so you can expect a crowd of thousands.
These destinations could not possibly be the highlight of your trip, but they could prove to be enjoyable diversions on the trip back home.
