After reading about Nancy Lee, the basement clutter recedes in
importance in my mind. Let me just say that I have to rethink my deadline
of having it completed by the end of April...
Linda,
I know just what you mean... It isn't as though the basement is the most important thing in the world. Thinking about Nancy Lee's situation does put things in a different perspective. I will be praying for her and for her family.
That said, I feel that clutter has kept me from living life to the fullest and enjoying it. My reason for decluttering is not only to clear my physical surroundings, but more to clear my mind, so that I can focus on the things that are really important. I am so tired of "things" getting in the way of living and feeling that I *should* be cleaning when I want to spend time with the kids and learn to relax and enjoy myself. I am feeling very philosophical about my life and the part my clutter plays in it.
By all means you should extend your deadline if it seems too much for you. I can't focus on cleaning to the exclusion of everything else - it has to take a backseat to the kids' needs & schedules. I guess my goal is to finish the shed, attic & garage by the end of May (focusing first on the attic) mainly because it will be too hot to work in up there after that. That should be a manageable goal, because with soccer ending I will have time to work at home again in the evenings & on the weekend.
Don't take my challenge as an expectation that you have to do this now. It has been encouraging to me to know that you were working along with me toward a goal. My house and life have improved tremendously over the last 2 years, as I have gradually cleared things out. I believe this is a journey of redefining myself, which will continue throughout my life, as new things come in and old ones leave.
I'm so glad that I have so many friends in this group making the journey with me.
Diane
