You're right about that. It's a very strange feeling. I woke up this morning with a feeling of dread, before I could even remember why...

I do have a medium sized dog, and English Cocker. She was in her x-pen though, right next to the door where they broke in. She likely barked, but she's much too social for a watch dog. Even if she'd been loose, she would just let them pet her.

I think the alarm system will be cheaper than a big dog - and alot less work. If I had a big dog it would end up in the house and would certainly be one more thing for me to care for, which I don't need. I think our next dog will be a small dog that we can take when we travel - when you're on the road alot it is tough to find someone to care for the animals. Thanks for the suggestion though.
