Hi folks, Sorry to hear about your burglary, Diane. Here, burglary is really commonplace. I've been burgled more than once, and I've had a car stolen. You're so right; one feels so violated. Whenver I go to a mall, I half-expect my car to be stolen. That way, if it is, it's no huge shock. If it isn't, it's a bonus in my day!
I think it's really hard for those of us who were raised with decent core values, to accept that there are other people in the world who have no respect for the space, life or property of others. I'm glad that there's a chance that "your burglars" will be caught; here, we only report it to the cops so that we can give the case number to our insurance companies. No one is under the illusion that the cops will do anything constructive about it. The police here are underpaid, understaffed, overworked, and - often - corrupt, so reporting things to them is widely seen as a bit of a joke. The effect that crime has on our kids cannot be ignored. While I was growing up, it never ocurred to me that someone uninvited would consider entering our home. Today, our kids grow up with barred windows, alarm systems and paranoia. Even a short trip to the shops has to be preceded by the alarm-setting ritual. Stinks, doesn't it? --------------------------------------------- This message was sent using World Mail. http://www.worldonline.co.za *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Journey from clutter List Website http://journeyfromclutter.com Members Only Page http://journeyfromclutter.com/MembersOnly/MembersArea.htm Unsubscribe: email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the word 'unsubscribe' in the 'Subject:' field to be removed from the main list.
