Niki -

Interesting that you played competitive soccer too. It's lots of fun and we
really enjoy it, but it makes for a very demanding schedule. I'm so happy
that we're on a break right now - just ended both teams for the season. I'm
looking forward to spending time working on my house before it all starts
again.

I understand your problems with the accumulation of "kid stuff". I've been
there too when my kids were small. They were also spoiled rotten - and still
are actually. Fortunately, as they get older the things they like don't take
up quite so much space - cd's, dvd's, video games are much easier to store
than kiddie toys. Don't feel bad though, I still have plastic boxes with
their favorite books and toys stored on the shelves and in the closets.

It sounds like you need some cabinets, shelves and plastic boxes for storage.
I love plastic boxes with lids that can be stacked~! I understand the money
factor, but you might look into Home Depot or Sam's where you can buy large
sturdy plastic shelves for a reasonable price and start setting a little
money aside to save for them. I bought plastic Sterilite boxes at Wal-Mart -
1 or 2 at a time - til I had one for each category of item to be stored.

They work for books, toys, clothes - pretty much everything. For kids toys I
used a box for each type of item - matchbox cars, duplo blocks, building
blocks, action figures, art supplies, etc. You choose the size of the box
according to the amount of stuff, but stick to just a couple of sizes so they
will stack easily. I labeled each box with an index card & sharpie. I used
this to teach the kids to pick up their toys. They could only play with a
couple of boxes at a time. Duplos might be in one area and matchbox cars in
another. Even toddlers can sort those and put them back in the boxes with a
little help and encouragement.

My kids still have labeled boxes on their shelves (some of which still
contain the matchbox cars and action figures - can't get rid of those...)
Hope this gives you something to consider without being too overwhelming.

Diane
