The First Vice President and the President of the Government of Southern
Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has resolved the political turmoil in
Rumbek.
Last month some members in the Lakes State Legislative Assembly signed a
petition of vote of no confidence against the Speaker of the parliament.
Speaking to the press at the Rumbek airport before departing for Juba,
Mr. Kiir said that the differences between the wrangling politicians in
the State have been resolved and reconciliation is reached.
Meanwhile the Lakes State Governor, Daniel Awet Akot, said that Isiah
Machnikok remains as the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly and
that the parliament twill resumed its normal sessions next week.

State as such he called on the citizens of the Lakes State to unite
themselves.
Tanks were heading to S. Sudan, BBC says
The BBC has reported that it received documents which prove the tanks
and arms on board of the Ukrainian ship were heading to southern Sudan
through Mombasa.
The ship has been detained by Somali pirates since September
twenty-fifth on off the country's coast.
According to the BBC, the manifesto of the shipment says the weapons
were to be received by the Kenyan Ministry of Defense on behalf of the
Government of southern Sudan.
In a new development one of the, pirate who captured the Ukrainian ship
said in an interview with Reuters that they are about to reach a deal of
ransom worth 8 million dollars. This will be the cost to release the
ship during the next two days.
This progress came after the UN Security Council yesterday unanimously
adopted a resolution urging States to use warships and military aircraft
to fight against piracy of ships off the Somali coast, according to
international law.
More details on the subject
The copy of the shipment manifest published by the BBC indicates the
initials of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) and that the contract
of the alleged weapons shipment was made by Kenya on behalf of South
Sudan's government.
The Kenyan Government has not commented yet on the document which has
been presented to the Defense and Foreign Relations Committee of Kenya's
Parliament. Kenya has repeatedly said that the shipment was part of a
program to restock its army. On the other hand, during the visit of
Vice President Ali Othman Taha to Juba the GoSS President Salva Kiir
Mayardit denied any relation to the weapons shipments.
Earlier, GoSS Spokesperson, Minister of Information and Broadcasting
Gabriel Changson Chang described the BBC report in a press statement as
false.
Although the import of military hardware is not illegal, it does put
Kenya in a tight spot diplomatically, because it helped to negotiate an
end to the civil war in Sudan by the signing the Comprehensive Peace
Agreement in 2005.
The agreement provides that any armament procedure should gain the
consent of the two partners of the CPA and to be monitored by the
peacekeeping mission.
Kiir orders release of arrested people
The president of the government of southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit,
launched the immediate release of all young people arrested for wearing
inappropriate clothing.

on the incident in the arrest of young people and the way in which it
was issued by the local province of Juba. Dr Biong further added that
the minister of interior in south Sudan, Mayom Akech, will lead the
investigation.
The commissioner of Juba County Albert Pitiya told Miraya FM that the
police in Juba have done a mistake of arresting citizens last weekend on
alleged "bad dressing".
The commissioner said that his recent local order was strictly related
to - what he has described as - "Niggers group, known for causing
insecurity in the town". Adding that it had nothing to do with the way
of dressing.
Arab League: Arrangements to solve Darfur crisis
The spokesman of the Arab League, Abdel-Rahim el abyed, affirmed that
the contacts performed by the league to prepare for the Arab initiative
to solve the Darfur crisis are in progress with the Sudanese government
and not with armed movements.
El Abyed's statements to Miraya FM came in response to the position of
the Justice and Equality Movement, which said it will not participate or
be a party in any Arab League initiative.
He further said that the Qatar initiative is seeking to host peace talks
between the Sudanese government and the armed movements in Darfur, which
is originally part of the Arab initiative and not independent.
Earlier, Senegal, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, South Africa and Tanzania
expressed willingness to join the Qatar initiative to end the conflict
in Darfur by means of negotiations between the government and the armed
factions in Darfur.

of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
