15 people killed/injured in western Darfur

   Over fifteen People killed and injured following an attack in Helilat
   area western Darfur State.

   The Sudan armed forces (SAF) accused the Justice and Equality Movement
   JEM of being behind the attack.

   Speaking to Miraya FM the (SAF) Spokesperson Brigadier Muhammad Osman
   Al-Aghbash accused JEM members of war crimes, terrorizing civilians and
   looting their properties.

   Brigadier Al-Aghbash added that the number of the victims is still being
   counted.

   For its part, the Justice and Equality Movement admitted carrying out
   the attacks saying that it was in self defense.

   Speaking to Miraya FM the Movement’s Spokesperson Ahmad Hussein said
   that the army attacked Al-Helilat area which is under the Movement's
   authority.

   Minawi meets the UN Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping

   The  Senior  Assistant  to  the president and chairman of Darfur Interim
   Authority,     Mini    Arko    Minawi,    met    yesterday    with    UN
   Undersecretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Alan Le Roy.


   Minawi  told Miraya FM that the meeting dealt with the implementation of
   the  Abuja  agreement and the initiatives aiming at resolving the Darfur
   crisis among other issues.


   Minawi  also  expressed  willingness to return to Khartoum in the coming
   days.


   He said that his return comes after what he called the positive steps in
   the implementation of the Abuja Agreement.


   The United Nations Undersecretary General for Peace Operations, Alan Le
   Roy, said the body will exert all efforts to complete the deployment of
   a fully equipped hybrid force in Darfur.


   Roy urged commanders and soldiers in Zamzam Sector in Northern Darfur to
   work for the protection of civilians in the region.


   A  meeting  starts  in  Khartoum  yesterday  to  met with the government
   official  and  discuss  the preparation for the Qatrais initiative under
   the supervision of the Arab League.


   The  presidential  advisor  Nafie  Ali  Nafi  said  that the movement is
   positive over this initiative.


   Itto condemns arresting people for dressing style

   The Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement deputy Secretary General for the
   Southern Sector has condemned the arrest of young people over dressing
   style by Central Equatoria State authorities.

   Addressing a press conference in Juba, the SPLM official, Dr Anne Itto
   said that the people should not think that it is the SPLM or the
   government of south Sudan, which caused the arrests.

   Presidential decree to form Unity Committee

   The  president  of  the  republic  Omer  Al Bashir issued a presidential
   decree yesterday to form the unity fund.


   The  committee is chaired by Slava Kiir FVP and Ali Osman Taha VP deputy
   chairperson,  and  the membership of Awad Aljazz Minister of finance and
   national  economic ALZubeier Ahmed Hassan minister of mining and energy,
   Lual  Denng  Acuil satae minster in the minster of finance, John luk yok
   minster  of power and mining in Goss and Kual Atihagn minster of finance
   in GoSS and al Derderi Mohammed Ahmed.

   Egypt hosts S. Sudan TV channel on Nilesat

   Minister of Information and Broadcasting and in the Government of
   southern Sudan, Gabriel changsok, announced that the Egyptian government
   agreed to host South Sudan TV channel on the Egyptian satellite Nilesat,
   in addition to training a number of media personnel from southern Sudan.

   Minister Changsok, who is visiting Cairo since Wednesday, told Miraya FM
   that the southern government constructs the basic infrastructure for the
   project.
   He further noted that training courses for southern media staff will
   start mid-November.

   Lack of health care, Tabitha says

   Federal Health Minister, Dr. Tabitha Butrus cited lack of adequate
   primary health care as the cause of the infection of about
   forty-thousand children with blindness in Sudan as well as scarcity of
   treatment centers.

   Tabitha told Miraya FM that most of the infections are in southern
   states, especially Bahr el Ghazal.

   The minister revealed a plan to fight the disease through construction
   of hospitals and clinics in the states along with health Education
   campaigns.


   Stock markets stagger in Europe and Asia

   Stock markets across Europe have fallen steeply after dramatic share
   price falls in Asia.
   There were similar falls across Europe - Paris was down 8.4% while
   Germany was down 9.1%.
   Investors fear a global slowdown, despite interest rate cuts and huge
   cash injections by central banks.

   Heavy falls were seen across Asia's markets as a climate of fear took
   hold on Friday.

   In Japan, the Nikkei index slumped in its biggest one-day fall since the
   1987 stock market crash.
   The crisis also claimed its first Japanese financial institution, with
   the insurance company Yamato Life going bankrupt.

   The Dow Jones - the US benchmark index - ended down 7.3% on Thursday -
   tumbling below 9,000 points for the first time since August 2003.

   Finance ministers from the G7 leading industrial countries are set to
   meet in Washington to discuss the crisis.

   US President George W Bush is due to make an address to the American
   people later in the day; as well as the G7 meeting, talks will be held
   at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington.
