Hybrid mission briefs international partners on Darfur situation

 February  19,  2009  (KHARTOUM) – The civil and military leadership of the
 hybrid  peacekeeping  mission  (UNAMID)  briefed  today  the international
 Darfur Partners Group about the current situation in the war-torn region.


 The  group which is formed after the signing of the Darfur Peace Agreement
 to  bring international partners together and coordinate their assistance,
 is  chaired  by  the  British  ambassador  to  Sudan  and  composed of the
 ambassadors   and   representatives   of   Canada,  France,  Germany,  the
 Netherlands, Norway and the United States.


 "The  African  Union-United  Nations  Joint  Special  Representative,  Mr.
 Rodolphe  Adada,  and UNAMID Force Commander, General Martin Luther Agwai,
 briefed  the members of the Darfur Partners Group on the current situation
 in  Darfur,  at  the invitation of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to
 Sudan, Dr. Rosalind Mary Marsden."


 The  UNAMID  top  officials  briefed the group on the Ceasefire Monitoring
 Mechanism  developed  by UNAMID and highlighted areas of cooperation where
 the  Darfur  Partners  Group could be of assistance. They also spoke about
 steps  undertaken  by  the  hybrid  mission to promote confidence-building
 measures on the ground.


 "This  meeting  provided  an  opportunity  to  brief  the  Partners on the
 multifaceted  activities  of  UNAMID  Civil Affairs, Humanitarian Liaison,
 Human Rights, Political and Darfur-Darfur Dialogue and Consultation (DDDC)
 components  and was followed by an exchange of views on all aspects of the
 Darfur situation." Said a press release issued by the mission.
