Calm restored in Abyei following recent clashes Monday, 28 February 2011 14:20 Sudan >>> The Misseriya tribe in Abyei has called for retsoring calm to the area, a day after seven people were reported killed and four other wounded in armed clashes.
Speaking to Radio Miraya, Mohammed Omer Alansari of the tribe, said that the clashes were a result of a robbery and not political in nature. He urged the Dinka Ngok and the Misseriya tribes to coexist peacefully. Alansari further called for a non-political solution to the area's crisis, adding that the matter should be left to the Abyei's administration to ensure a lasting, decisive solution. On the other hand, the Dinka Ngok tribe says it cautiously accepts the Misseriya proposal, after failure of implementation of the recent Kadugli conference between the two tribes, which aimed at easing tensions between them. Speaking to Radio Miraya, a leading member of the Dinka Ngok tribe, Wour Mijack stated that the Abyei issue will not be resolved by the Abyei administration, clarifying that the issue has political dimensions and thus it should be solved politically. Abyei is disputed between the north and south, and is one of the remaining issues after the Southern Sudan Referendum of last month. April has been agreed as a deadline to reach a comprehensive solution between the southern Sudan People's Liberation Movement and northern National Congress Party. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
