By Waakhe Simon Wudu Juba, 14th March 2011 [Gurtong]-The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-SPLM told the media in Juba yesterday that Sudan’s ruling party, National Congress Party-NCP has planned to overthrow the Government of Southern Sudan-GOSS before the end of the interim period in July this year. “The country is in crisis because the NCP has been planning to destabilize South Sudan since the beginning of the referendum process till now. NCP has stepped up the destabilization of the region by creating trainings, arming, and financing various militia groups within South Sudan,” Pagan Amum SPLM Secretary General told the press in Juba. He continues, “The plans of the NCP have two components in terms of security: to support and create militia groups in South Sudan particularly in Upper Nile, Jonglei, Unity, Northern Bar El Ghazal and Western Bar El Ghazal states. The other plan is to arm Janjaweed forces (Sudanese pro-militias mainly operating in Darfur) along the border from Darfur up to the border with Senar,” explained Pagan. These claims are coincidentally reported when the two parties: SPLM and NCP were involved in negotiations on post referendum arrangements between the two regions stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement-CPA, a peace accord signed in 2005 between the two parties on behalf of the two governments of: Southern Sudan and Sudanese government. The CPA ended more than two decades of war fought between the two governments that killed an estimated two million lives and displaced over four million people. SPLM has however, suspended the talks following the leaked NCP plan on the South. “We suspend our talks with the NCP until it changes these policies of destabilization and come back to the table to negotiate positive post referendum arrangements,” said the SPLM Secretary General. Pagan said that, SPLM has facts from the ground on the NCP deal to topple its government. He said that, NCP supports the various militia groups operating in the region. Following insecurity threats throughout this year in the Greater Upper Nile Region of Southern Sudan inflicted mainly by the different rebel groups in the region, Pagan commended that, these are all being fueled by the Sudanese government led by NCP. “All these are taking place and happening as part of a plan by the NCP and its leadership to over throw the Government of Southern Sudan-GOSS before July and to install a puppet government in Southern Sudan that will be under the control of NCP and this is to deny the independency of South Sudan,” he added. He confirmed to have reserved the details about the coup and plans to share with the press amidst this week. However, in a statement to the Reuters online, a Senior National Congress Party (NCP) official Rabie Abdelati dismissed the SPLM’s statements to the media as "ridiculous."
