By James Deng Dimo WAU, 11th, March, 2011 [Gurtong] – In the two days meeting held by Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-SPLM in Western Bahr el Ghazal State late last week, it was resolved that SPLM will disassociate itself from taking Wau Freedom Square as allocated to build its offices by the State government. Wau Freedom Square is an historical public property of the entire citizens of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, since SPLM is a party of the people it will disassociate itself from taking over public lands (Wau Freedom Square) which was relocated to SPLM to build its secretariat by the Western Bahr el Ghazal State government. The SPLM Liberation Council concluded that in consent of SPLM vision and mission, mindful of the principle of human rights and the rule of law it had a responsibility to respect SPLM ideals as enshrined in the constitution May 2008. Speaking during the meeting, the liberation council members turn down the offer by the Government of Western Bahr el Ghazal for building up the SPLM premises in its resolution No: 3/2011, dated 20/01/2011 without the consent of the SPLM liberation Council. In a similar occurrence, President Salva Kiir Mayardit had last year laid a foundation stone at the SPLM State office in Eastern Bank. The SPLM State Liberation Council further formed a committee to find an alternative site for construction of SPLM Secretariat in Wau. During the meeting the Council learnt in dismay the decision of the Government of Western Bahr el Ghazal State made to take over the subscription funds remitted in the government block account. This is not in line with the policies of SPLM and that the State government acted outside their mandate to allocate party’s money in the government block account and funds should be administered by SPLM State office. The council officials said that the unilateral decision of the government made by depositing or remitting the 5% should be rendered back to State Secretariat administration. The council also reminded all SPLM members to pay up their monthly subscriptions; failure to pay would lead to warning of the member.
