Juba, 22nd March 2011 [Gurtong] - The Ministry of Peace and
Comprehensive Peace Agreement implementation, CPA, yesterday handed
over ten vehicles to the Peace Coordination offices of the ten States
of South Sudan.

Rev. Mathew Mathiang, a Member of South Sudan Legislative Assembly,
SSLA, and Chairperson of the Specialized Committee for Peace and
Reconciliation in parliament handed over the cars to the State
Representatives.

Mathiang said that the cars were meant to facilitate activities of the
Ministry and the Coordination offices at the States.

He said that the Ministry would want to create a good ground for peace
amidst the remaining months of the Interim period for the virtual
independent nation to be recognized by July 2011. “We need to work
hard for stability,” Hon. Mathiang said.

The GOSS Ministry of Peace and CPA implementation is represented by a
Coordination Branch in the various States of the virtual independent
nation.

In an exclusive interview, the Undersecretary of the Ministry Hon.
Beatrice Khamisa said that, the donation of the ten land crushers to
the State office coordinators is a way forward to intensify the
activities of the Ministry in advocating for peace.

“This is to intensify our peace work at the State level, Counties and
down to the Bomas,” Beatrice said. She said that the current situation
in Southern Sudan is alarming in terms of peace initiatives are key.

“When we look at the situation in Southern Sudan there are several
areas that need peace dialogue,” she said pointing out that, “we
cannot do that if we are logistically weak.”

Beatrice underrated the inadequacy of peace mechanisms to create
dialogue among several communities in South Sudan who especially are
not in peace due to cattle rustling and land encroachment that fuel
conflicts.
