This is apparently the article which caused security forces in Juba to
confiscate the Juba Post.

Athor plans to attack Juba

Malakal - The Spokesperson of the rebel South Sudan Democratic
Movement (SSDM) Maj Gen Dok James Pouk has said that forces loyal to
General Athor will launch heavy attack in Juba shortly before South
Sudan hoist her national flag.

Speaking to The Juba Post on phone from his base, Maj Gen Dok said the
defection of Peter Gatdet with over 3000 soldiers including 570
officers from Unity state Division 4 to SSDM is a confirmation that
the movement is growing. The rebel was reacting to a statement by the
SPLA spokesperson Lt Col Philip Aguer that Gen Gatdet had defected to
the rebel outfit alone. Maj Gen Dok added that politicians and men in
uniform are defecting from the SPLM/A because the ruling party is not
capable of satisfying the aspirations of the people.

With the ongoing defections, Maj Gen Dok claimed, the SPLM will be
surprised to find that it is an empty shell by July 2011. He claimed
that the recent attack on Malakal town by Gen Olony was done through
the directive of SSDM and similar attacks will be carried out in other
major towns of southern Sudan before the independence of South Sudan.

The rebel spokesperson further said that contrary to the claims by the
SPLM Secretary General Pagan Amum that the rebel movement is getting
support from Khartoum, they are in fact receiving support from SPLA
senior officers who plan to join the rebel military wing. He explained
that SSDM is also getting support from some neighboring countries.

The rebel officer wondered why the SPLM always blamed Khartoum
government instead of finding a lasting solution to the conflict in
southern Sudan. The inclination of SPLM is to indefinitely brand
Khartoum as the major enemy of the south while pretending that a
brother cannot turn against family members, he said.

Maj Gen Dok bragged that southern Sudanese will believe in the
movement once SPLM/A is expelled from southern Sudan. He was
‘emphatic’ that SSDM has intends to form a democratic system of
government before the independence of the south.

He turned a leaf of history and said that the concept of power sharing
as articulated by the late Dr John Garang was not to be monopolized by
the SPLM or any other party.

Maj Gen Dok told the SPLM intellectuals the defection of SPLA forces
to SSDM is not heading a call by George Athor but is due to the
weaknesses of SPLM leadership.

He added that SPLA was the liberator of southern Sudan during the
struggle but he amazed that SPLM/A has prioritized on fighting the
SSDM before settling the issues of Abyei, Blue Nile and Sothern
Kordofan.

We could not reach the SPLA spokesperson for comments by the time of
going to press.
