RUMBEK, 9th April, 2011 [Gurtong] - The Undersecretary in the Health Ministry of the Government of Southern Sudan, Dr. Oliva Lomoro arrived in Rumbek County, the capital of Lakes State, ahead of the launching ceremony of various health facilities in the State. Dr. Oliva who was accompanied by a high profile delegation from the Health Ministry said yesterday that, the Ministry of Health was touring South Sudan States to assess health facilities ahead of the South Sudan independence in July this year. The Lakes State Health Minister, Dr. Samuel Mayak including a few MPs and other Ministry representatives, were among the State officials at Rumbek airstrip to welcome Dr. Lomoro with her delegation in Rumbek. The undersecretary was scheduled to open renovated healthcare facilities in Cueibet County located west of Rumbek on her arrival. She said that the objective of their visit was to assess and equip the State hospitals with various services such as primary health care, child health and Maternity clinic to avoid delivery complications during child birth. “We need to improve the health of our people. Now that we’re becoming a Republic, we have to get good infrastructure, good hospitals and qualified doctors. Olivia reiterated that with the help of GOSS, her Ministry would open one school in Lakes State to train and increase nurses and primary healthcare workers. “We are also trying to recruit specialized personnel from outside the country to work in South Sudan’s various health sectors,” she said. Dr. Lomoro also confirmed that the Government of China had donated one hospital to be built in Lakes State that will act as a referral hospital of Rumbek.
