S Sudan Police to create border buffer between W Equatoria and Lakes states Tuesday, 12 April 2011 10:39 Sudan >>> Southern Sudan police will be deployed to Western Equatoria and Lakes State border to create a buffer zone between Mvolo and Mapordit counties to prevent hostility between the two communities.
This was announced during a joint press conference held Monday by the Governors of Western Equatoria and Lakes states, following their meeting with the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS). Western Equatoria State governor, Joseph Bakosoro, said the creation of a buffer was agreed in their security meeting last week. Meanwhile, the Governor of Lakes state, Chol Tong Mayay, urged the tribal chiefs, Members of Parliament of both states, and GoSS to engage the people to embrace peaceful co-existence. Cattle-herders and farmers from the two counties have had several clashes since early this year, resulting in deaths on both sides. The Governors of the two states met last week in Lakes state to seek a solution to the issue. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
