Chol Tong Mayay affirmed yesterday that, his County chiefs and commissioners will lose their respective seats if they were not willing to do their jobs professionally.
Governor Tong was reacting to those County Commissioners who were not diplomatic enough to convince their youths especially in Mvolo and Yirol West Counties, to avoid cattle raids. “If those commissioners who were appointed based on community demands are not doing enough to convince their youths to stop cattle raids, then we will take stern measures against them during reappointments,” Governor Tong Said. Tong also appealed to all Lakes State chiefs to talk to their community youths. He acknowledged the huge responsibility involved in convincing them to distance themselves from frequent cattle raids. “If cattle raids continue in your respective Counties, then chiefs will also be affected by decisions that the Government of Lakes State would take. Tong reiterated that it was the responsibility of the chiefs and commissioners to engage the youths in development work and it’s the responsibility of the government to provide services to people like protection from external interference. However, the Lakes State’s police commissioner, Saed Abdulatif Cawuol Lom said that Lakes State police was well equipped to maintain law and order during the Independence Day on July 9, 2011. “We have beefed up security to avoid looting and organized crimes in the coming day of independence celebrations. The police are well equipped to control the public,” Abdulatif assured the Governor. However, Lakes State citizens complained that State police were harassing them at night, beating them without substantial reasons. The police commissioner denied the allegations affirming that the police were trained to be friendly to citizens. Abdulatif noted that the police were not sent to train on harassing any person, “Policemen are very friendly to people despite their political parties’ affiliation,” he added. Earlier this week, Governor Tong was invited by Government of Southern Sudan, to attend the African Union, AU, meeting in Juba under the theme “Post war construction and development”. The State government presented their developmental program during the meeting. Posted in: Home -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
