Over $450 million to combat malaria in northern Sudan Tuesday, 19 April 2011 15:49 Health >>> International Donors said they have allocated more than US$450 million to combat malaria, Tuberculosis (TB), and HIV/AIDS in northern Sudan between 2005 and 2015. Addressing the donor conference in Khartoum Tuesday, the Country Director of UNDP in Sudan, Claudio Caldarone, said that the funds allocated have curbed the spread of such diseases in the last few years.
The Southern Sudan Ministry of Health says many people in the region especially lack HIV/AIDS awareness, putting them at high risk of contracting the virus. The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Olivia Lomoro, said that they need to expand the health education system, especially in rural areas. The Ministry of Health organized this week's four-day meeting among the representatives from state health ministries to develop joint planning for treatment of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis in the region. Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health said that the United States has partially lifted the embargo on children's drugs. Addressing the press in Khartoum, the Undersecretary in the Ministry, Essam-din Mohammed Abdallah, said that continuous discussion with the US State Department lead to the easing of the embargo. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
