GOSS To Address Economic Crisis Ahead Of July 9

By Waakhe Simon Wudu
JUBA, 15th May, 2011 [Gurtong]-The Government of Southern Sudan has
devised a comprehensive resolution to address the looming economic
situation the virtual independent nation is facing ahead of her
Independency scheduled on July 9th 2011.

The GOSS Minister of Commerce and Industry H.E Stephen Dhieu presented
a memo to the GOSS Council of Ministers Meeting on Friday exposing the
status of economic situation in the region.

One of the key concerns in the memo was the shortage of food and
commodities and the alarming rate of skyrocketing prises.

Speaking to the press shortly after the Council of the Minister’s
Meeting in Juba, the GOSS Minister of Presidential Affairs Dr. Cirilo
Hiteng said, “the Minister of Commerce and Industry has presented a
memo alerting the government on food shortage after the North
Government stopped exporting commodities into South Sudan.”

After a thorough analysis on the Minister’s memo presented by the
Council, the Council has reversed the presentation of the Minister to
the Minister’s Economic Cluster.

The Cluster was recommended to establish more details on the economic
situation in the region. It is then expected to report back to the
council after one week for a final solution on the matter.

Hiteng said the decision to table the economic situation was a wake up
call after the Northern government blocked roads for transporting
goods and services from Khartoum to South Sudan.

The Minister warned that, “If the Khartoum’s decision continues it
will jeopardize peaceful relationship between the two regions that are
soon to become two autonomous States after July this year.
