TORIT, 21st May 2011 [Gurtong] – Through its Justice and Peace Mission
that was established by the State Council of Ministers more than a
month ago, the Government of Eastern Equatoria State, EES has embarked
on combined operations to harmonize warring communities by returning
raided cattle to rightful owners.

While speaking to the press early this week at the former police State
Headquarters in Torit after arriving from a peace operation, Nartisio
Loluke Manir, the State Deputy Governor who heads the Justice and
Peace Mission revealed that over 500 stolen cattle had been recovered
and given back to their respective rightful owners.

Loluke revealed that the operation, currently in the three Counties of
Torit, Lafon/Lopa and Ikotos, will run until 30th June this year.

He clarified that the Magwi County case is handled independently as
crimes involved differ from the rest of the Counties; however, he said
they were in collaboration with the Magwi County Commissioner and are
strategizing suitable mechanisms to approach the Magwi incidences.

Before heading to Greater Kapoeta Counties; Loluke optimistically says
his mission targets over 200 stolen cattle in the greater Torit
Counties to be returned to rightful owners and that they would not
condone any village politicians instigating violence.

Affected villages were Ileiu, Loming Chlamini, Lolianga, Kiyala,
Tiriangore, among others.

He confirmed that cattle rustling activities do not exist in Magwi territory.

Led by the Deputy Governor Loluke, the mission’s membership is drawn
from the Executive, Security intelligent agencies, the police -headed
by Colonel Ben Bilal Mamur, a team of special investigators, community
members and a legal counsel.

“The one-month old operation shall soon be extended to Great Kapoeta
Counties once we comb Greater Torit Counties,” said Loluke.
